Makeover: A new step forward for spring

Shiela Barkey, 49, is an operations manager who was ready to adopt a more refreshed and rejuvenated look this season.

Shiela has fine hair, which was previously highlighted and had grown out. She wanted a style and color recommendation that would best suit her hair and I suggested going lighter and shorter with her length. To lighten her hair, I applied blonde highlights all over her hair, then balanced and refined her blonde with demi-permanent polish in a cool, clean beige tone.

I washed her hair with Oribe – Beautiful Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner, then sprayed the mid-lengths and ends with Oribe – Run-Through Detangling Primer for extra hydration. I knocked several inches off her length and created a classic, diagonal, jaw-length-forward silhouette.

Before styling, I sprayed Oribe – Maximista Thickening Spray for bodybuilding and fullness, then blow-dried her hair with a round brush. I touched up her hair with a curling wand and finished the style with Oribe – Flash Form Finishing Spray Wax, for airy, buildable texture.

Reconcile:

Shiela has gorgeous blue eyes and a great bone structure and I wanted to show her how to enhance her features using a few simple beauty products. On her eyes, I applied a chocolate brown cream to matte shadow all over her lid, then lined the upper lid with a dark brown eyeliner. I curled her lashes and smeared them with black mascara, then dusted her face with bronzer. On her cheeks I dabbed a cream blush and on her lips I applied a berry lip tint layered with a touch of sheer lip gloss, for extra shine.

Makeup used:

Primer: MIFA All-Over Mist with Vitamin Sea Oil and Essence.

Foundation: Sephora SClean Glowing Skin Foundation #7.

Corrector: Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage #2.

Eye shadow: Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize in “Chocolate Veil” with MAC “Dark Brew” as shadow liner.

Sunbathe: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Powder.

To blush: Merit Flush Balm in cool pink.

Lip: Dior Lip Glow in Berry with Sephora Clear Lip Gloss.
