Dsquared2 Men’s Spring 2023 Collection

The Dsquared2 showroom in Milan today was so large that the models almost seemed to sail away. Binoculars would have helped capture every detail of Dean and Dan Caten’s über-elaborate style mashup, an outlandish layering inspired by surf culture and 1970s Jamaica.

Riding the wave of collaborations, the Catens worked with the Bob Marley Foundation, which granted them permission to reproduce a portrait of the reggae genius on t-shirts, beach bags and bags. “We loved the vibe of that time, and the freedom and rebellion it represented,” they said backstage. “Peace and love, and the joy of music.” From the Jamaican flag, they’ve extracted bursts of color punctuating the sporty pieces they excel at, while cool formal options have been imaginatively crafted in well-orchestrated mayhem, like in the collection’s hero set: a tuxedo evening dress with slanted shoulders or a check blazer worn with stockings, over a tie-dye sarong over the shoulder or over multi-coloured printed beach trousers.

With each passing season, Catens’ layering reaches new heights. It’s a fun formula that they are able to enthusiastically articulate, keeping it rather fresh and entertaining. Another collab, this one with Honda, energized biker jackets and various patched leather pieces with a 70s flavor. print and patchwork flares with applied marijuana leaves.
