Aldi Slough: Readers react to new store opening next spring

EXCITEMENT is in the air as a major supermarket chain has confirmed to open in Slough next year.

Aldi has announced that it will welcome customers to its new Farnham Road branch, which is due to open in spring 2023.

It comes after the supermarket announced it plans to open more than 100 stores in the UK over the next two years, including Slough.

Aldi has pledged to invest £1.3bn by 2023 in a bid to further expand its retail base, while continuing to push ahead with plans to open an average of one new store per week.

There is a lot of speculation as to where he currently plans to go along Farnham Road.

Rumors on social media indicated he could either move to the old Sainsbury’s site and others said he could take over the Pets At Home unit.

The Observer saw a planning request suggesting that Aldi might move into the Pets at Home site, but Aldi has yet to respond to our request for confirmation.

Some of our readers reacted to the announcement on social media earlier this week.

Rizzi Hussain said it was good that Aldi was opening in the city, but added that next year is “a long way off”.

John Carter said it would be “something useful” to Slough.

“Aldi makes pretty good quality food for the money,” he said.

“I’d rather that than a takeaway shop or more apartments.”
