After a 2-8 season and no games in the spring, Churchill hopes to find a gridiron identity this fall | 2022 High School Football Preview

The Chargers are hoping to build team chemistry ahead of a tough series of district matchups.

SAN ANTONIO — For the first time in his tenure at Churchill, head coach Ron Harris has opted out of playing spring ball.

For that reason, Harris says the Chargers need to be built this fall from the inside out.

“They’re the ones with the least advantage not to spring ball,” Harris says of his offensive and defensive line. “So these fall practices are crucial for them.”

The Chargers are looking for consistent quarterback play, with open competition in the fall.

“It’s different when they’re really protected,” Harris said. “We have to make sure they arrive on match day healthy.”

The Chargers will host Stevens in Week 1 and travel to Hays Buda in Week 2 before embarking on a daunting stretch in District 28-6A.

One area the Chargers are defined in is special teams. Senior Kameron Van Prooyen handles both kicking and punting for the Chargers and has one of the strongest legs in Alamo Town.
