Pastel polish, French tips and more!

Despite the chirping of birds and the brighter evenings, it may still be a little early to put away the coats for good. Do you know why it’s not too early? A charming spring manicure, that is, the easiest way to usher in the new season. From sweet sherbet hues to throwback designs (French tips, anyone?), here are the top nail trends to consider right now.

From baby pink and periwinkle to buttery yellow and lavender, saccharine polishes have softened many looks on the runway. (Imagine a packet of mini eggs, that’s the palette.) After all, nothing says spring like powder pastels.

Advice in French

Call it a French revolution: contrasting advice has had a moment this season. Michael Kors went classic with a purist combination of beige and white, while Prabal Gurung showed a more playful variation with nails dipped in pool water blue or fuchsia.

A major lip trend this season, glossy red has also made several appearances on nails. Tip: For a red that hangs more on the terrace than on the holiday party, opt for a cheerful shade that’s a little warmer. An ultra shiny top coat is also essential.

From playful fur collars to frosted eyelids, early 2000s nostalgia is stronger than ever this spring. So it’s no surprise that millennial-era metals are all the rage in the nail aisle. Bring on the holographic finishes.

There is a cold front in the neutral department. Cold moles dethrone grilled terracotta and camels of yesteryear. A gray-tinted beige is elegant and sophisticated on its own, but also provides the perfect backdrop for nail art. (See below.)

Black details

Give that aforementioned greige lacquer a little boost with a high contrast design. It doesn’t have to be super complex or extravagant. Dip a dotting tool in black varnish and draw a pretty daisy on two of your fingers, like at Sandy Liang. Want something more graphic? Paint a wavy strip along the tip and side of your nails Peter Do style.
